Or slip it out of a pocket or purse for an attention-getting way to share your tunes anytime, anywhere. The full-bodied, 360-degree sound will make your friends wonder where the speakers are. And with its long battery life, the music keeps playing long into the night.

The Altec Lansing Orbit comes in two variants; Orbit-MP3 and Orbit-Mobile, denoted Orbit-M. The difference between them is null; pressumably. Because I was only provided with the Altec Lansing Orbit-Mobile, I can only speak of that, which uses a 3.5mm connecter and comes with a 2.5mm adapter and a Sony Ericsson adapter. My assumption however is that the MP3 version also comes with the 3.5mm cord, and that's about it. Quality-wise, I am assuming they'd be about the same based on that fact that they may very well be identical products in design and experience from other portable speakers.
But differences aside, plug it into your MP3, PDA, phone, whatever you may have that uses one of the three above mentioned connections, and you can share your favourite hits with all your friends. The Orbit provides a reasonable volume that works well in a small group of people, but you wouldn't use it to host a larger gathering. Thanks to the dish design, it easily pumps out crisp audio everywhere, but once you exceed that volume limit, it breaks down.
While under the limit and doing well, it brings out fine treble but weak bass. The bass notes feel like they're played on a higher note; audible and stronger than built-in speakers on mobile devices, but not solid. Although It plays higher ranges clearly, it struggles to bring out the finer details such as the the soft beats that compliment the song; isn't very audible.
When you want to share music with people, duration is important, and the Orbit won't disappoint. With the power of 3 x AAA jammed inside, over 15 hours is easy. I found myself going 26 hours strong before deciding to stop. Within that time, I had a mix of low volume and high volumes, equally distributed.
Great portable speaker for those who like to use their mobiles as their MP3 players, or stuck with the annoying 2.5mm outputs, as the Altec Lansing Orbit is a companion you just have to have if you love to share you tunes. I would recommend going with the Orbit-M mainly because it has adapters to use with more devices, assuming that the MP3 variant only has a 3.5mm.
