Devil May Cry has been a long running series where the first was almost revolutionary. A lot of people didn’t like the second, and the third made up for it. Now, the forth is here and it has it all, but lacking at the same time.

You don’t play as Dante but as Nero and the story revolves around Nero. For a short duration, you will play as Dante and the only reason to it is to give the game some length, albeit there are some interactions between Dante and Nero which goes with the story.
Dante crashes in on pray session one day and shoots his Holiness dead and Nero is sent to capture Dante.
Along the way, Nero learns unsettling things and unknowingly gets himself involved with Dante, rather than just hunting.

The gameplay is still the same from previous, where you slowly gain new skills to use and make life easier. Nero contains a Devil Arm which he can use to pull enemies to him or to slam them accordingly. His sword can also rev up to deal stronger combos and damage against his enemies. You will find yourself blasting up into the air, dragging enemies around, and slicing them with your blazing sword. With the right moves, you can rack up gorgeous stylish points allowing you to learn more useful techniques. Unfortunately Nero does not have any true form of blocking or dodging but his arm makes up as a good counter attack component. Nero doesn’t gain any further weapons however and relies heavily on his arm and skills and he is all about brute strength.
Dante on the other hand contains his four styles from Devil May Cry 3 and you can switch between them on the fly, enabling you to make lengthy combos, deal large damage, rack huge points, and fight accordingly to the situation. Dante will gain more weapons which are powerful, fast, and can take down the biggest of enemies easily.

Though gameplay plays great with all the stylish combos, it wouldn’t have been any joy without riveting graphics. Polygon counts and textures are detailed and creative; but character models could use a little more detail. The only time when the graphics have an impact on performance is when a large amount of objects is created, whether rubble, red orbs, or explosions. This isn’t an issue though as there you will rarely experience this.

Though DMC looks great, sound doesn’t quite match up. It sounds great with all the slicing and dicing of demons as you run through the various environments, but there isn’t much going for you with regards to background music to give the action or atmosphere.
Voicing however is done very well most of the time and lines are on point, even if they can be corny at times.
To push forth the story and show off the beautiful world, characters, and sound, there is just about a movie sequence between and after each chapter you play through.

Though the story is very typical, there is a small twist which is revealed early on in the game. Other than this, there aren’t any surprises in the game to bring out much excitement.
DMC is all action and action only.

Enemies present almost no challenge, only moving around and attacking you if you get in the way. Once in a while, they will make the initial move and attack. Later in the game, they become a little more aggressive presenting some challenges but the real fun is during boss fights where you are put to your wits.

There isn’t much to say about Devil May Cry 4 as game concept is great, but story presented here isn’t strong. It does however leave some questions for a fifth installment. Graphically, DMC4 delivers a blast with environments and effects that look fabulous, but the lack of atmosphere in sound doesn’t make it exciting to play through as much as you’d like.
What really drives DMC4 is the action it provides as players can perfect combos, or just beating demons to a pulp in blissful beauty.
