It's almost been 2 weeks now and so far, Utah is a little different to live in compared to Melbourne. It's hard to say, it just is, excluding obvious things of course.
Well, as mentioned last time, here are some pictures for our tour around Temple Square and events we did. We weren't allowed to take photos or recordings of the Christmas dance, though I have some, but I won't be putting them up. It is something you would have to save up for to come and see. Dances from around the world and their different cultures, some are amazing, some are a little boring in comparison, but each interesting.
We drove around a little to have a look at some of the houses which were already putting up Christmas lights and there are some really nice houses out there. One which I will hopefully be able to convert and upload to watch soon.
And as mentioned, we started decorating our own also.
Aside from all this, we've been up in Park City a couple of times to do a bit of maintainance work on a condominium to fix it up before it gets rented out. Along the way, we got to see the reservoir and dams of Utah, and some nice waterfalls down the mountains. We then had our first Family Home Evening and I was giving the lesson on tithing. It is a little intimidating when you are standing there in front of a room full of adults, teaching them, and not only that, but return missionaries. And then we got our own Christmas Tree up. We then visited the Family History Centre in Park City and we found out that ex-president George Bush is actually related to Prophet Joseph Smith. Amazing. We also did some volunteering work at the Bishop's Storehouse. This is where people can come in and help can food or pack food or other household accessories, shelve them, and those in need of supplies such as these can come in and take what they need for free. There are certain requirements and limits though so that it doesn't go overboard, but it was a good experience. We bagged peanuts and toilet paper.
We later went on hiking up the mountains and it was a good work out on the legs climbing up. I went ahead of the others to try and reach the valley but it got a little late and we needed to head back for other things. I was very close to reaching the valley also; well have to try again another time. Running down to catch up to everyone was painful on the feet though, but we gained some nice scenery up and down.
We had a ward Christmas party also where I will also need to upload another clip I recorded; it was great. We had also gone to the temple to do some baptisms but I unfortunately can't quite remember the name of the temple. I will have it up in my next blog though.
There was also a evening show about the Prophet Joseph Smith and Bryce Chamberlain did a one man show portraying the life of Joseph Smith which was very interesting having to use a little more of our imaginations. Hopefully I have his name correct also. During this night, some old artifacts, paintings, and sculptures were brought in for viewing.
And just tonight, we did some hot tubing. We would go into the hot tub, warm ourselves up, then jump into the snow to role around in, and then quickly get back into the hot tub. You get a tingling burning sensation when you do that. So we've been doing a lot this past week and there are a few more things we'll be doing shortly. Speaking of which, this coming Friday we will be road tripping it down to and back from Las Vegas.
