In solution to my previous article in using TV out on the PSP, because buying the necessary adapter is too costly, I went back to step one, RemoteJoy, which was an application on the PSP to display what you were doing on your computer monitor via USB connection.

This had various problems, which was why I never used it much, but upon looking around again and noticing the RemoteJoy Lite version, I gave it a go; it works fabulously.

The problem with the original was that not all games would run properly. Some games won't start up so you have to run the program after launching the game. Some won't load save files and such if running, and some won't save. Some will freeze during mid-way loading in the game.

RemoteJoy Lite has corrected that issue, but whether there are still games out there or not that may still not function completely, I'm content with it running Monster Hunter Freedom Unite without any problems.

A great feature about this program also is that you can press F11 to take a screenshot of the game at 480 x 272, and F12 to record the game at 480 x 272; this will do nicely with Monster Hunter.

To set it up, you will need to download RemoteJoy Lite, which you can easily find on Google. You also need to have a homebrew enabled PSP, most likely a hacked one, not the offical homebrew enabled PSPs; give it a go nonetheless.

There are 3 folders, seplugins, drivers, and GUI.

Copy seplugins onto the memory stick on your PSP in the root path, where there are other folders like PSP, VIDEO, PHOTO, etc.

Enter the recovery menu by holding down R while turning on the PSP. In the plugins option, you'll see the same module 3 times, but under a different category; enable all 3.

When you exit, the PSP will start up. Have your USB cable plugged into your computer and PSP, and the computer will automatically detect it. It may or may not install drivers on its own. If it does, make sure it's called PSP Type B in Device Manager, and if not, browse to the drivers folder to install it.

Once done, simply go into the GUI folder and run RemoteJoyLite_en.exe.

Right click on the window to view properties and settings.

The only thing you really need to do is to go to the Capture tab and check Enable AVI capture. I've set it to 60 FPS also and I have a codec compression on at the same time. Experiment with the Codec section, whether you want to capture raw quality, or have it compressed at the same time. I found the video capture to run smoother for me for it to compress while capturing, compared to the stuttering of capturing raw quality.

Enable WAV capture will allow you to capture whatever is plugged into your microphone jack, so you can connect your PSP to it via 3.5mm cable both ends.

For myself, I then go to the PSP tab and check Turn PSP screen off, so that it will turn off whenever RemoteJoy Lite is running.

Save, and begin using.

What I like about this program also is that you can freely connect and disconnect the USB cable and your game will automatically switch between PSP view and monitor view; by way of mentioning this is because I turn off my PSP screen while for those who don't can be rest assured you can easily plug in the USB cable at any time and expect it to work, given that it works to begin with.
